The duration of distance learning MSc programmes is more flexible than those studied at Loughborough. By studying two modules a year, the full programme can be completed in five years.

However, it is quite possible to study multiple modules at once, in which case you will finish much sooner. Alternatively, provided you complete the whole programme in eight years, you can take a break from studying if you wish.

Completing an MSc by distance learning in 2 years

You can 'fast-track' your distance learning study by choosing up to four modules in each five-month study session so that it becomes possible for you to complete your MSc programme in 2 years.

You should note, however, that the estimated number of study hours for each module (150 hours) means that you would need to study on average about 30 hours per week. As the work is unlikely to be evenly distributed, in some weeks it may be higher than this (and less in others), particularly around the time of assignment submissions. Also note that assignments from other modules can have the same submission date so you will need to manage your study and time effectively.

You will need to study modules in the right order as some modules should only be studied after completion of the foundation modules.

The Case Study module (for the Water and Waste Engineering and Water and Environmental Management programmes only) and the Research Dissertation module (a 60-credit module than runs over one year) need to be studied later in the programme.

Study of the compulsory Data, Collection Analysis and Research module should precede study of the Research Dissertation module.

If you wish to take the fast track option, the following approaches are recommended to complete your study in two years.

Please contact wedc.distL@Lboro.ac.uk if you have any queries about completing the MSc in two years or less.
