Training for Real Links


The project is being managed by the Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC) at Loughborough University. assisted by local consultants, including interfaceconsult .

The project has been initially funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), with management by the Danish overseas development agency DANIDA.

The sector in Uganda is lead by the Department for Water Development (DWD).This is a Directorate within the Ugandan Ministry of Water, Lands and Environment (MWLE).

Other major employers are National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) and the Ministry of Health. and many Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) represented by Uganda Water and Sanitation NGO Network (UWASNET). Other stakeholders include the Nile Basin Initiative.

Major education suppliers for the sector are the Faculty of Technology at Makerere University, Kyambogo University, the Nsamizi Training Institute of Social Development and the Mbale School of Hygiene.

These stakeholders signed up to the Training for Real ideas at the first forum held in March 2005. The commitment was lead by the Hon Minister of Water Development Mrs. Maria Mutagamba, signing a large panel, which all the stakeholders signed in turn.
